Traveling with kids can be a wonderful way to bond and create memories that will last a life time. Vacations allow us to explore the world, meet new people and learn about different cultures. It can also be really stressful for parents to plan, which is why I’m thrilled to chat with Christina Vieira of Showcase the World Travel.
How can we raising kids who love traveling?
Begin traveling while they are young. Parents often wait until they can remember or the perfect age, but there is no perfect age for traveling. Children learn to love traveling and gain a deeper understanding of other cultures.
You can also read books and watch movies as a great starting point. Children will be more curious to go new places, you can get them interested in your vacation by learning about the location before hand. It really helps to make a connection to what they are learning and where they are traveling to.
Why is it important to start traveling while they are young?
Flexibility is an important skill that children will learn through traveling. They become more willing to try new things while away. That then transfers to being willing to try new things at home. Children also gain confidence with new experiences.
What advice do you have for the busy mom who doesn’t have time for planing?
Consider using a travel advisor. Travel advisors can save you time and money. They will make the trip more enjoyable for everyone involved. And of course take on the task of all that planing for you. It is important to get to know your advisor and choose one that connects well with you and your interests. You’ll want to make sure you choose one who works with families often.
What is one of the biggest mistakes parents make when planing a vacation and how can they avoid it?
Parents often try to plan too much. Just pick the top 3 activities each day and have a back up list of extras if you have time. Another great tips is to let each person plan one day of the things that they want to do. This works well for kids because they are more willing to go along with the itinerary when they have a special day planed too. Parents often try to fit in a lot during their vacation. But, traveling with children forces you to slow down rather than rushing.
